Meet Your Teacher (and Fellow Hand-Talker)
¡Hola! I’m Maripaz, creator of My Spanish Crew Academy.
I’ve helped hundreds of expats and non-spanish-speaker spouses go from “lost in translation” to feeling at home in Spain, not just through words, but through real connection.
I have been teaching Spanish online for about a decade (yes, before Zoom was even a thing). And I created the mini course Spanish Beyond Words as a fun, fast way to understand what Spaniards really mean — before they even say it.
I had so many students who worked really hard during the year to get ready for their yearly trip to visit their in-laws in Spain. They were conversationally ready. But once they got to the family sobremesas, there were so many uncomfortable misunderstandings... Because when the "suegro" would use their hands to communicate something, they were not able to decipher it! Or even worse... they were sure he meant something completely different...!
So I incorporated Spanish non-verbal cues to my method. And my community is now full of members who know that Spanish is not just about having so much vocabulary and using the correct grammar, but about being able to read social cues to really feel like a part of it!
